Barcelona’s Gerard Pique wished Real Madrid’s Alvaro Arbeloa well and admitted ‘sometimes the tone was too much’ in their exchanges.
Arbeloa is to leave Madrid this summer and said an emotional farewell to Santiago Bernabeu as Los Blancos beat Valencia, the win also keeping Madrid on Barca’s tail at the top of La Liga.
“I wish him the best wherever he goes. If they have said goodbye to him this way, it’s because he has earned it,” Pique said, AS reports, when asked following Barca’s 5-0 win over Espanyol.
“Sometimes the tone [of their Twitter messages] has been too much and we shouldn’t have done it. He’s had a great career with great titles, especially the World Cup, and wherever he goes, I wish him all the best.”
