Suarez plays down Godin clash

Luis Suarez has asserted that his friendship with Uruguay teammate Diego Godin remains intact, despite the duo’s clash in the Champions League.

Suarez appeared to throw an elbow into Godin’s face during Barcelona’s 2-0 second-leg defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals 10 days ago, but the forward joined the defender in playing down the incident.

“I’m friends with Diego,” he told Sport 890, Marca reports.

“The last game, with the elbow, he knows that I didn’t mean to touch, nor was that clear to me when it happened.

“After the game, I went to greet him and we spoke about it.

“These are things that happen on the pitch and people shouldn’t worry about them. It’s our way of playing.

“We’ve been on a very negative and surprising run, where we’ve created many chances but they’ve not gone in.

“We still have a chance of winning two trophies. There’s an abundance of quality in this squad.

“When everything goes well, it’s thanks to the level of the team, not only us three [the ‘MSN’].

“We lost the Champions League, and it hurt us, but we know that the League continues to depend on us.”
