Bruno: Madrid win not impossible

Villarreal captain Bruno Soriano agrees it will be difficult to win at Real Madrid, but insists it’s not impossible.

The midfielder returns from suspension for Wednesday’s trip to Santiago Bernabeu and could become the first skipper of the Yellow Submarine to claim victory at the home of Los Blancos.

“I don’t think we’ve ever won there and that’s not very funny. It’s something I want to change. I wouldn’t want to end my career thinking I couldn’t win at the Bernabeu,” he told an interview with AS.

“I understand people think it’s difficult, but that motivates me more. Clearly it is difficult, but it’s not impossible. Obviously it’s never a good time to go there, but now might be the worst. This is a key game for them.

“We’re a good team that has competed in difficult places. We’re having a great year and we can top it off at a great ground. We expected Madrid to be more motivated because now they have possibilities. If they want to maintain their fight for La Liga, they have to win.

“We expect a very passionate crowd because they know they can win the title and they’re going to do everything for their part. We don’t expect to relax or anything like that. We have to know what to expect and to handle it best. It’s a good opportunity to play a great game and I think we’re capable.”

It was put to Bruno that defeat could jeopardise Villarreal’s Champions League challenge but he remains positive about ending the season well.

“The League is tightening but we knew this would happen. We still have a cushion but we can’t give up because all we have left are finals. I’m optimistic and our idea is to give everything and fight for every ball,” he continued.

“We’re in a moment when we play for everything and we want to end reaching the goals we set at the beginning of the season.”
