Raul Gonzalez has urged Real Madrid fans to put their trust in Zinedine Zidane “if he says we can win the double”.
Madrid have gone from strength to strength under Zidane, not losing a game since the derby defeat to Atletico on February 27, cutting their deficit on Barcelona to just a point and reaching the Champions League semi-finals via a two-goal comeback against Wolfsburg.
“If Zidane says [Madrid can win the double]…,” the legendary forward said at the Laureus Awards gala.
“Zidane came in two or three months ago and couldn’t have done any more. I’m very happy with him.
“Still, I think we must wait for the season to end [to make valuations].
“It’s clear that Madrid have cut the gap [on Barca], as have Atletico. They were further behind a few weeks ago and it was difficult, but football and games have tightened the League.
“The slightest mistake can cost [any of the three], but Barca still depends on themselves.
“It’s a joy that there are three teams fighting for the League, all with great potential, but the advantage is to the first.
“There are two great semi-finals involving two Spanish teams. A repeat of the final of Lisbon would be best for the Spanish football and it’s what I want, but it won’t be it easy.
“There are great players and great squads [in the last four]. I wasn’t surprised by Barca’s elimination as they were eliminated by a very strong team.”
