The President of the France Football Federation isn’t worried about Euro 2016 without Karim Benzema. ‘Did you see Antoine Griezmann against Barcelona?’
It was on Wednesday confirmed that the Real Madrid striker wouldn’t be considered by Les Bleus for the tournament due to his alleged involvement in an attempt to blackmail midfielder Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape.
“What has been decisive was the group’s behaviour at training camps. We feel a great harmony. The players conducted themselves so well we felt there was a risk of jeopardizing that momentum,” Noel Le Graet told L’Equipe, AS reports.
“I didn’t want Euro 2016 to be a matter of whether or not Benzema triumphs. It’s the collective which will succeed or not. The time to focus has come, for the Coach, the media and the other players. They’re the ones who will play, because they have been exemplary, because they deserve it.”
Le Graet added that, in his opinion, Didier Deschamps’ side wouldn’t even miss the Madrid forward.
“Did you see Antoine Griezmann against Barcelona? And the young players coming through? Rarely have we had so much talent in attack for the national team,” he argued.
“Frankly I’m not worried. The objective remains the same, which is the semi-finals or more, if possible.”
