Masche: Barca’s first final

Javier Mascherano sees the Champions League quarter-final second leg at Atletico Madrid as Barcelona’s ‘first final’ of the season.

Barca lead 2-1 from the first leg but Mascherano told a pre-match Press conference that La Blaugrana would go to Vicente Calderon in search of victory.

“We have an advantage but we’ll go out to win. We have to be at our level to play a good game and go through. We know never to speculate. Having the lead gives us confidence to do a good job,” the Argentine said, AS reports.

“We still have a lot of confidence. We want all the trophies, even with losing our advantage in La Liga. We have an advantage in the Champions League and we’re [Copa del Rey] finalists.

“You go through difficult times in a season but to have chances we have to win what’s left. We went a long time without losing and we have to return to the source to win the first of the finals until the end of the season.

“We had a bad 15 minutes at Villarreal and lost points. In the Clasico we played a good game but couldn’t close it. We had a good second half against Atletico and could have scored more goals and last Saturday at Anoeta, we could have done better. Everything is in our hands. If we have more options it’s because we’ve done things right.

“We don’t focus on what happens around us. There are things to improve that have led to us not giving our best performance and these are the details that decide if you win a game or not.”
