Luka Modric believes “togetherness is the most important thing” for Real Madrid when they host Wolfsburg in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Madrid head into the second leg of their tie with Wolfsburg 2-0 down from the first game in Germany, but there is widespread belief among Los Blancos that a comeback is possible, and Modric is in agreement, providing his side are always in sync with one another.
“Playing together is the most important thing [on Tuesday], when we attack and defend,” the midfielder said at a Press conference.
“We must be very focused, enter the game with a cool head and, most importantly, play football.
“That must be the strength of Madrid, playing football and being patient.
“We can’t expect to solve anything in five or 10 minutes. We’ll be patient and hopefully we’ll have opportunities and it all ends well.
“I feel responsibility and have no problem with it. I feel good, but most of all it’s not about one player.
“It’s about the team, and we have to be compact and do things together. One player can’t solve anything alone. The priorirty is always the team.
“We’ve analysed [our mistakes at Wolfsburg], we know we didn’t do well and the game was bad for us, but that’s behind us now and we have to look forward and not repeat our mistakes.
“I’m sure we’ll have a great game [on Tuesday].
“The atmosphere in the dressing room is very good, we have a very good and talented squad and I think we’re able to turn this tie around with the support of our fans, who are very important and will be with us.
“Still, we have to prove it on the pitch. We’ll give everything, and what is certain is that at the end of the game we’re not going to point fingers.
“We’re the team with the most European cups and our obligation is to go through and not only [on Tuesday] as we want to be in the final.
“If it were to go to penalties, we’d be prepared. Keylor [Navas], since the beginning of the season, has also been impressive, and to have someone like him in goal gives us a lot of confidence. Hopefully he’ll help us if we need him.
“For me, Casemiro is an example to us all, that with hard work and dedication, you can do great things.
“He brings a lot to this team and I want him to keep it that way.”
