Zidane: We are Madrid…

Zinedine Zidane wants Real Madrid to go to Wolfsburg and be themselves. ‘We’re Madrid and we want to play our game.’

The sides meet in the Champions League quarter-final first leg and Zidane was asked about the defensive work of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale, with reference to Los Blancos’ victory in the Clasico.

“The three of them are working well. Sure, you can ask for a lot more in defence, but they are doing their defence role,” Zidane explained, AS reports.

“Their main mission is to attack. However, in hard games they do their job in defence. We have to work together if we want to win trophies.”

Zidane is expecting Wolfsburg to provide stern opposition for his side despite Dieter Hecking’s charges not having the best time of it in the Bundesliga, where they sit eighth after 28 games.

“It will be a tough game. They’ve had difficulty in the League, but that doesn’t mean anything,” Zizou insisted.

“They deserve to be here. We’ll play our game and we’ll try to do well.

“Wolfsburg have a lot of dangers. They know how to play, they’re physically strong and fast. Certainly they can cause us difficulties but we are Madrid and we want to play our game.”

The question of Sergio Ramos’ discipline was also raised after the captain was sent off again in the Clasico.

“He’s close to his best, despite his injuries. Regarding his sending off, he’s always on the edge,” Zidane noted.

“It’s required by the game. I’m happy with him. He’s the captain and he’s always going to be important.”
