Carrasco blow for Atleti

The ‘FIFA virus’ has struck Atletico Madrid again after Yannick Carrasco was sent home by Belgium with an ankle injury.

Carrasco will play no further part in the international break, Belgium’s official Twitter account has confirmed, ruling him out of Tuesday’s friendly against Portugal.

It is understood that the winger pulled up with an ankle injury, and he has since returned to Madrid, where Atleti will put him through tests to determine the severity of his knock.

The worst-case scenario would see Carrasco unavailable for the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Barcelona on April 5.

The Belgian is the latest Atleti player to suffer an injury while on international duty, with Lucas Hernandez and Saul Niguez also subjected to the same fate.
