Nacho: Spain have top defence

Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez has hailed the strength of Spain’s backline as “I think the centre-back position is well covered”.

Nacho has featured sparsely for Madrid since Zinedine Zidane’s appointment as Coach at the beginning of January, but he is likely to get the nod alongside fellow peripheral stopper Marc Bartra against Romania on Sunday, and he is ready to vindicate Vicente del Bosque’s “confidence”.

“I appreciate the confidence of [Del Bosque] and I think the centre-back position is well covered,” he said at a Press conference.

“[On possibly partnering Marc Bartra against Romania], representing Spain is always a pleasure, regardless of the opponents. It’ll be a hotly-disputed game.

“We’re focused on the national team at the moment. When we return to our clubs, we’ll think of them.

“[On a strong police presence at the game], these are normal security measures as we’re used to them at our clubs.

“It’s a good idea that we’re facing a team we may get in the Euros, so we’ll get to know them better this way.”
