Real Madrid President Florentino Perez hailed Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff as “one of those people who should never die” during Saturday’s memorial service.
A ceremony was held at Camp Nou to commemorate Cruyff, who lost his battle with lung cancer on Thursday, and Perez put Clasico rivalries to one side as he led Madrid’s delegation with a profound tribute to the Dutchman.
“These are sad days,” he began.
“There are people who should never die and one of them is Johan Cruyff.
“He was born in the same year as me. I followed all of his life.
“He changed the history of Barca and football, not only in Spain but the world.
“He’s one of those people whose memory will live on forever.”
