Father: Atleti want Lukaku

The father of Romelu Lukaku has revealed that Atletico Madrid, among other European clubs, are interested in signing the Everton striker this summer.

Lukaku is currently enjoying his best-ever scoring season, with 25 goals in 36 appearances for Everton, while Atleti are expected to reinforce their attack in the coming months, with the Jackson Martinez experiment failing and a Mario Mandzukic-shaped void yet to be filled.

“He’s ready to go to a big team,” Roger Lukaku told The Sun.

“I see that there’s interest from Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester United, but I think he should choose Manchester United or Bayern.

“Manchester United are a team under construction, while Bayern Munich are a machine, which he can adapt well to. The only requirement is that Robert Lewandowski leaves.

“I know his agent [Mino Raiola] prefers to take him to Italy, but I think he must choose between Manchester United and Bayern.”

Lukaku junior was then asked by Sky Sports about his father’s remarks, including whether he could move on in the summer, and replied: “Maybe, yes. You never know.

He added: “I’ve become 23 and would like to play in the Champions League.”

“I have never played in the Champions League. I would like to compete against the absolute top.”
