‘Under-21s need their best version’

Spain Under-21s Coach Albert Celades warns his players need to be at their best when taking on their Croatia counterparts.

La Rojita host Croatia in Burgos in a qualifier for the European Under-21 Championships next year, Spain topping Group 6 by a point from Croatia, having won 3-2 in Rijeka in November.

“Croatia is a team of a lot of talent, especially in midfield and attack, with many top players, some of whom have already played with the seniors,” Celades warned, AS reports.

“Therefore we need our best version, the best of everyone to get a positive result.

“We know the importance of the game and we face it with the best mentality. Croatia are a direct rival and after winning there we have to back it up with a victory.

“Everyone knows what it’d mean to win, the important step and so we’re ready for the match. Both they and us have had some changes due to injury, but the philosophy of the two teams is the same.

“We can’t play at 90%, we need 100% from everyone. When you’re playing such a good team, if you lose concentration, if someone isn’t 100% for 90 minutes, you can’t neglect a second against a team as talented as this.”
