Masche ‘needs Argentina return’

Javier Mascherano admits he wants to return to Argentina but isn’t sure when, and playing for Barcelona is too ‘intense’ to enjoy.

Masche, having also revealed Lionel Messi has offered him the chance to score his first Barca goal from the penalty spot, and complimented his compatriot, spoke of what it means to him to wear the colours of La Blaugrana.

“Being part of a team like this, with unique, unrepeatable players, generates a lot of pride,” he said in an interview with Argentina’s TyC Sports, Mundo Deportivo reports.

“I’m aware that we go at such intense speed, and playing every three days, it’s impossible to enjoy. You don’t have time.

“You’re always thinking about what’s coming and you don’t have too many moments for relaxation. But obviously there are situations that you’re not going to see anywhere else.

“There are unique moments where you enjoy your teammates. That’s not to mention Leo, Luis Suarez, Neymar, the same for Sergio Busquets.

“Everyone chooses how to play and how to try to win. I accept all styles. But there is one I like more than others. There are ways to play.

“Everyone chooses the way best suited to their players, but I see in Argentine football more risks taken than before and that is beneficial for everyone.

“It’s a long time [since leaving Argentina]. Increasingly I feel the need to live in my country because it was a long time ago and it’s strange. But I honestly don’t know when.”
