Griezmann: Benzema is important

Antoine Griezmann has spoken about Karim Benzema’s role with the France team and the difference between internationals and Atletico Madrid.

The Atletico forward is with Les Bleus for friendlies against the Netherlands and Russia ahead of Euro 2016, with Benzema’s participation in the tournament in the air due to his alleged role in the Mathieu Valbuena sex tape and blackmail affair.

“There are other strikers – [Andre-Pierre] Gignac, [Olivier] Giroud and [Anthony] Martial can also play well,” Griezmann said when asked about France’s forward options, AS reports.

“We’ll see in these two games. Karim is an important player for us. I get on very well with him. I’m not the one who picks the team when Valbuena and Benzema are back. We have two games to try things.”

Griezmann was asked to compare life with France to working under Diego Simeone at Atletico, and acknowledged it’s not the same.

“The national team and a club are different. You’re with your teammates every day at Atletico,” he pointed out.

“This is different because you only have a few days to prepare for the game. I try to do my best. I know I have to work harder.”
