Jemez ‘can’t say no to Spain’

Paco Jemez insists speculation he’ll succeed Vicente Del Bosque is just rumours but ‘no Coach is going to say no.’

Rayo Vallecano Coach Jemez, speaking from A Coruna where he was at a coaching seminar and discussed Deportivo La Coruna’s situation, also talked La Roja.

“I’ve been at Rayo four years and if I’ve learned anything it’s to live with rumours. I’m not saying they’re true or not, but I’m staying with Rayo,” he noted, AS reports.

“If I have a fifth, sixth or seventh year, hopefully, it’s because the work has been good.

“No Coach is going to say no to the national team and neither would I. They only come to your door once.”

Jemez then offered his thoughts on Del Bosque’s latest squad, suggesting Deportivo’s Lucas Perez deserved a call, but acknowledging Aritz Aduriz had to travel.

“Lucas’ first half of the season was spectacular but Del Bosque opted for Aduriz because right now he’s the forward in form. It would be almost impossible for him not to go,” Jemez accepted.

“Every week he wins support. These forwards are not just the best in Spain but in Europe. If Lucas continues, he’ll get his chance.”
