Zinedine Zidane believes “we can achieve great things by playing like this” after Real Madrid’s 4-0 victory over Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday.
Goals from the ‘BBC’ plus Jese Rodriguez fired Madrid to a convincing win against Sevilla and within just a point of arch-rivals Atletico in second, and Zidane was delighted with how his side responded to their struggles at Las Palmas the week before.
“I’m very happy with our game from the first to last minute,” the Coach said after the game.
“I felt we had one of our best weeks of training and it was shown in the players’ work.
“We played one of our best games of the season. We’ve had some very good games here, and I don’t know if it was the best, but we’re very happy.
“Every game is different. I’ll have all players to choose from until the end of the season and I have the responsibility to always put out the best team, but they’re all important.
“[Sunday] was one game and tomorrow’s another. I want to highlight the work of all and also those who didn’t play.
“We didn’t win easily, it was a difficult game we had to play, but I’m satisfied with the players’ performance.
“We can achieve great things by playing like this, and the players know it.
“Still, every game is different. We must always play with the same intensity and implication. If we do that, I won’t be worried.
“Keylor [Navas] is a member of the team and we need him. I’m happy with what he did and it’s very good to have a goalkeeper like him.
“This is the third time the ‘BBC’ have played under me and it’s very important to have all the players available.
“They give you a boost, but I also want to congratulate those who played for 20 minutes because it’s not easy to enter a game and perform well. Now comes the international break and the players will go with their national teams.
“[On the referee], I didn’t hear anything about campaigns. I don’t talk about referees, I just think about work.
“We’ve said that our goal in the League is to finish above Atletico in second.
“We’re closer now and we’ll continue this way. We have to keep adding points and working hard.
“There have been good weeks throughout the season, not only this one.
“We were very good in the week, but there’s been other weeks [just as good].
“We have to be consistent in what we do. Our attitude is fantastic, but sometimes we lack consistency in matches.
“Still, that’s part of football, you can’t always play 90 minutes at your best.
“I’m only interested in what we’ve been doing lately. At least at Las Palmas we got the three points, but I was angry [with our performance]. [Against Sevilla] we did both.”
