Torres: Credit to PSV

Fernando Torres praised PSV Eindhoven after Atletico Madrid needed penalties to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

Juanfran scored the decisive penalty after both legs of the tie ended goalless, the Dutch side causing problems for Atletico at Vicente Calderon.

“You have to give credit to PSV. They raised their game very well,” Torres, who scored in the shootout, noted, according to AS, later batting away a question over his future.

“We found it very hard to create chances. Their goalkeeper was the player of the tie.

“There wasn’t much more. They gave up on attack after the end of the first half. We couldn’t have the chances we wanted.

“I’m calmer now. We’re happy and excited but very tired. We’re through this round and there are fewer left and everything remains the same.

“My penalty? I was thinking about doing something decisive, like against Bayer Leverkusen last year. The young players have taken responsibility and have tremendous maturity.”
