Neville: Unacceptable & indefensible

Gary Neville slammed Valencia’s “unacceptable and indefensible” performance during Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to local rivals Levante in La Liga.

Giuseppe Rossi’s second-half strike gave Levante bragging rights in the Valencian derby, prompting Neville to accuse his players of lacking “fight” after the game, although he made it clear the buck lied with him.

“The team were unacceptable and indefensible, so I apologise to the fans,” the Coach said.

“In football, you can miss chances, but you have to fight.

“It’s impossible not receive them if everything is given on the pitch.

“I won’t blame any individuals and take full responsibility for what happened, although playing on a tiring pitch [San Mames] three days ago is no excuse.

“I’m convinced the team will not show the same lack of intensity here on Thursday.

“Regardless of the language barrier, I’m convinced the players understand my messages.”
