Jemez would ‘understand’ Rayo sack

Paco Jemez says he would ‘understand’ if Rayo Vallecano brought in a new Coach to save the team from relegation after defeat to Espanyol.

Rayo haven’t won since early February and are level on points with the bottom three with 10 games to go, Jemez absolving the players of blame and pointing the finger at his decisions.

“I’d understand if the club looked for a Coach for the last games. It’s not a problem of my players but me,” he claimed, Marca reports.

“Maybe I haven’t found the right combinations. I think the club has to look for something. Perhaps it might be the solution.

“It’s a miracle we’re not down with so many goals conceded. I understand that if we continue like this, the club is irreversibly going to the Segunda. We concede goals with astonishing ease.”

Jemez did add, however, that he has faith in his capacity to steer Rayo clear of the relegation zone, and said his focus is on getting points.

“I’m very capable of anything. I haven’t said I’m not,” he continued.

“We’re in a difficult time but we’re not in the relegation zone. We need to start adding points in the next matches.

“We wanted to make the game [against Espanyol] complicated, but we couldn’t because we conceded too quickly.”
