Zidane plays down Italian struggles

Zinedine Zidane isn’t interested in Real Madrid’s rocky history against Italian clubs. ‘My duty is to look to the future.’

It was put to the trainer at his pre-match Press conference that Madrid have eight times failed to go through in the Champions League against Serie A opposition.

“There is a return leg. We want to go through. We’ll give our best and then we’ll see,” Zidane replied, AS reports.

“What happened in the past is that, the past. My duty is to look to the future.

“We have to be stronger. It will be a difficult game. Roma are a good team and they can play. But I’m relaxed because we’ve had a good week and we’re ready to play the game.”

Zidane was asked what advice he would give to Roma’s veteran captain Francesco Totti, who is 39 but still turning out for the capital club.

“He has to make his own decision. He’s been playing well. He’s spectacular,” he said of the Roma captain.

“Only he can say goodbye. It’s always a pleasure for me to see such a player on the pitch.”
