Spain back Infantino in FIFA race

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced its support for Gianni Infantino’s bid to become FIFA President later this month.

The UEFA general secretary has been confirmed as a candidate for the presidency ahead of February 26’s election, which will also be contested by Prince Ali Al Hussein, Salman Bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Jerome Champagne and Tokyo Sexwale, and Spain are the last nation to back the 45-year-old.

“As agreed by its Board of Directors in January, the Spanish Football Federation [RFEF] has decided to show its official support for Gianni Infantino’s bid to become FIFA President, the elections of which will be held on February 26,” read a statement on the RFEF’s official website.

“RFEF considers Infantino to have all the qualities and experience required to chair FIFA at a critical point in its history.”
