Berizzo ‘knows Copa importance’

Eduardo Berizzo is under no illusions regarding the importance of the Copa del Rey to Celta Vigo. ‘I’m moved by the dream of taking the team to the Final.’

Celta face Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in the first leg of the semi-on Thursday night and Berizzo believes he has a duty to ensure the players know what the tournament means.

“I’m moved by the dream of taking the team a new Final. I know the importance of this trophy to the city,” told reporters, according to AS.

“My responsibility is to convey that and inspire the team with what it really means to play a Cup semi-final with the second leg in Vigo.”

Berizzo was part of the Celta team that beat Barcelona in the 2000-01 Copa del Rey last four, only to lose the final to Real Zaragoza, and he warned Sevilla will be strong opposition.

“They’re a big team in our League, a team of champions, but we think we’re able to beat them,” he continued.

“Sometimes hope, dreams, and everything to do with the team spirit matches the strength of any rival. That’s our great commodity.”
