Report: Jackson to Guangzhou

Jackson Martinez has reportedly left Atletico Madrid for China’s Guangzhou Evergrande in a €42m transfer.

The move was reported late on Tuesday night by AS, who say Los Colchoneros have recouped the fee they paid to Porto for the Colombia international in the summer.

Atletico, Jackson and his agent Jorge Mendes and Guangzhou were said to have been in talks throughout Tuesday, though Atleti had hoped to sell the striker on Monday before Spain’s transfer deadline so they could find a replacement, but Jackson declined to go.

Diego Costa was requested by Diego Simeone but Chelsea refused to negotiate, and Jackson wasn’t part of the proposal as the Premier League club had no interest in his services.

Sporting Lisbon this past weekend made an offer to loan Jackson from Atletico for the rest of the season but it was rejected, AS add.

Heibei Fortune were the first Chinese team to try to get Jackson from Vicente Calderon before Guangzhou stepped in, more than doubling Heibei’s €20m approach.

The Chinese transfer window runs until February 26.
