Luka Modric has recalled how he idolised Zinedine Zidane while growing up and how he values the advice of the Real Madrid Coach.
Croatia international Modric spoke to FIFA’s official website and suggest Zizou could still command a place in the playing XI, never mind the trainer’s role.
“Zinedine was an idol. He was one of the players I admired as a child,” Modric revealed.
“I think every young player admired him because he was one of the best of his generation.
“Every piece of advice he gives you is like gold dust and it helps you improve on the pitch. I’m amazed by what he can do with the outside of his foot.”
Modric also praised the help of Cristiano Ronaldo, discussing the example the forward sets for his teammates.
“He’s an amazing teammate and to my mind the best player on the planet,” he continued.
“Sharing a dressing room with him is fantastic. You can learn so much from him: his desire, how hard he works every day, the effort he puts in. It’s incredible.”
