Eduardo Berizzo described Celta Vigo’s Copa del Rey quarter-final win over Atletico Madrid as his most important on the Galicians’ bench.
Celta took a 3-2 win at Vicente Calderon to reach the last four following a goalless draw at Balaidos, and Berizzo spoke of the importance of the victory after the final whistle.
“It is my most important win. When you beat one of the big teams it means more,” he admitted, AS reports.
“It’s my most important. This game had a very different connotation to the League game against Rayo Vallecano.
“We have a small squad and we had to work hard in this game. Atletico make it awkward. We came to a difficult ground, but we played with courage, respecting our game.
“I’m prouder than ever to train this squad. We’ve won at a very difficult ground and against a great team, and to win like we did gives me great satisfaction.
“We knew we could harm Atletico at set-pieces, even knowing they could score from them. But we learned to manage many situations, such as after going to 1-1.
“Collectively we’re a very good team. If you come here to defend for too long, it’ll go badly.”
