Barca fail in Suarez appeal

Luis Suarez’s two-game Copa del Rey ban stands after Barcelona failed in an appeal but could go to the Sports Administrative Tribunal [TAD].

Marca notes the Uruguay forward was given a suspension for alleged comments made in the tunnel following the first leg win over Espanyol, a bad-tempered affair that saw a confrontation between the teams in the tunnel following the final whistle.

Suarez denied making the comments attributed to him – and one report suggested Javier Mascherano was the guilty party – but the appeals committee of the Spanish Football Federation [RFEF] rejected his protest.

Barca could take the issue to TAD and get the two-game ban reduced to one, but Suarez is going to miss the second leg of the derby tie, which Barca lead 4-1 from the first game.

Should Barca be successful in getting Suarez’s ban halved he would be available for the first leg of the quarter-final, if Barca progress.
