Neville chasing consistency

Gary Neville has seen encouraging signs in recent Valencia performances and wants to maintain them while picking up victories.

Neville has only overseen one win in his time at Mestalla, in the second leg of the last round of the Copa del Rey, over Barakaldo, and with Granada the opponents in the next stage, is eager for more.

“The second half against Villarreal was very good [as well as against Real Madrid] and I said we lost and that I didn’t like, but we want to continue what we did against Madrid,” he told reporters, according to Super Deporte.

“We have to have good consistency. There are good things, not just talent with the ball. There’s also a compact defence and a good attacking game, and we can’t lose that level and we have to ensure that performance every week.

“We have to maintain the level shown against Madrid, who are among the best in Europe. The players have shown me they can play well and I want to repeat it in every game. Coaches want coherence and consistency.

“We’re thinking about Granada because we want continuity of our game, whether it’s in the League or the Cup. I don’t make any difference in competition because it’s not only to win but to have a good performance and good results.”

Neville also confirmed a start for Alvaro Negredo, who he admits he has been itching to see in a competitive match.

“Yes, Negredo will play. I’ve always wanted to see him play, he’s doing a great job. He’s only been back with the team for two weeks and he’ll play as it’s well deserved,” the former Manchester United defender continued.
