‘Perez paving the way for Benitez exit’

Florentino Perez is preparing the groundwork to get rid of Rafa Benitez as Real Madrid Coach, a report in Spain claims.

AS says there are machinations on-going that would allow the club to paint a decision to remove Benitez as the will of the fans, including a poll of club members that asked, among other questions, who would be the preferred candidate to replace the ex-Napoli trainer.

Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Manuel Pellegrini, Carlo Ancelotti, Arsene Wenger and Zinedine Zidane were the six potential Coaches put forward, and the socios called were also asked to grade Benitez on a scale of zero to 10.

AS claim that the poll was designed to be a straight choice between Mourinho and Zidane as the other four are effectively impossible appointments.

Guardiola is too closely associated with Barcelona and appears bound for the Premier League, Pellegrini has sat on the Madrid bench once, Ancelotti is Benitez’s predecessor and will replace Guardiola at Bayern Munich, and Wenger shows no sign of leaving Arsenal, having been there for almost two decades.

El Laguero has claimed Benitez will be replaced by Mourinho and AS point out that Madrid haven’t denied any of the speculation, while in the past they have publically rejected some items of gossip.
