Lucas ‘honoured’ by Spain link

Lucas Perez admits he is “honoured” by calls for his inclusion in the Spain squad after another goalscoring display for Deportivo La Coruna.

The attacker scored his 12th La Liga goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Eibar, a strike which also saw him match Bebeto’s club record of netting in seven consecutive games.

“I’d welcome [Vicente] del Bosque’s call because it’d be an honour to wear the Spain jersey,” he said after the game.

“With hard work comes everything, but what matters aren’t individual successes, rather those of the team.

“[On matching Bebeto’s record], I only look for wins, not records, and both my goal and [Alejandro] Arribas’ served to win us the game.

“Bebeto will always be a Deportivo legend. I’m not here to make history but to be paid for my work.”
