Galca promises to ‘excite’ fans

New boss Constantin Galca has vowed to “excite” Espanyol fans as he prepares to make his La Liga bow on Saturday against Las Palmas.

The former Romania international began his reign with a 2-1 victory over Levante in the Copa del Rey last 32 on Tuesday, just a day after he succeeded Sergio Gonzalez at the helm, and he is now focused on setting his team up to attack.

“I want to see all my players [before January] and our next few games will prove it,” he said at a Press conference.

“It’s an important clash [with Las Palmas] as three points are up for grabs.

“We want to excite the fans with our football, and I hope that, at the end of the game, we keep all three points here.

“Las Palmas are a happy team, who like to play with the ball and go forward.

“We want to win the game and play good football at the same time.

“We want to be aggressive, get the ball near our goal and enjoy our football. We’ll surely get results if we play like this.

“I like to bet on my attackers and, with security [at the back], we’ll proceed to arrive in our opponents’ box and find more consistency in our game.

“[On the Copa], the most important game is against Las Palmas, then comes Barcelona.

“It’ll be a very good game for us. We hope to have a good game and we’re going to give them a lot of trouble.

“The lads are going to give everything on the pitch. From there, I hope the players are satisfied after the match.

“[On Espanyol’s approach vs Barca], we’ll play to our philosophy and try to impose it.

“I know it’s hard, they’re a very strong team but we’ll try.”
