Aduriz ‘feels like a kid again’

Athletic Bilbao striker Aritz Aduriz admits “I feel like a kid” again after his stunning first half to the season.

The striker has fired 20 goals in just 26 appearances to date, despite none in his last three games, and he could not hide his enthusiasm for the rest of the season, with Los Leones flying high on all three fronts.

“I’m enjoying my football a lot, much more than I did for a while,” he said at a promotional event on Friday.

“There are many pressures which have to be embraced over time in professional football and sometimes it’s difficult. I feel like a kid when I’m playing and training.

“We’re trying to be as close as possible to the top [of La Liga] and win both the Europa League and Copa del Rey, and that’s what I want.

“I care a little less about the individual side [of the game], but if we all contribute individually then things will be for the benefit of the team.

“Obviously, I would like to score as many goals as possible.

“We can compete against anyone, but our results and position don’t reflect that.

“To say that is perhaps a little risky, but we have a path we can take.

“We’ve beaten big teams, won a trophy [the Supercopa] and competed with them more regularly than not.

“Everyone has to believe those things. If you don’t believe yourself then it’s difficult to follow this path.

“It was very positive [that six different players, excluding himself, scored against Linense in the Copa del Rey].

“It’s great that the square are capable of scoring six goals, and to do it with six different players is very satisfying.”
