Hierro, Mijatovic as sporting director?

Florentino Perez is said to be eager to appoint a new sporting director at Real Madrid and Fernando Hierro and Pedrag Mijatovic are the candidates.

AS cites a report by El Laguero that says the two former players are in contention for the role, and Hierro was only recently employed by Madrid, as assistant to Carlo Ancelotti.

Hierro also has experience of the post, having been sporting director at the Spanish Football Federation, but it’s believed he has no interest in the position.

Mijatovic, meanwhile, was sporting director under the presidency of Ramon Calderon and helped the club to two League titles and a Supercopa de Espana victory before leaving when Calderon was voted out in favour of Perez, in 2009.

The ex-Serbia international has said he’d find it difficult to work with Perez, but Madrid are now keen to fill the vacancy last held by Jorge Valdano and Miguel Pardeza.
