Tebas: If Madrid win at Barca…

LFP President Javier Tebas believes Real Madrid can still catch Barcelona and win the title, but will have to win at Camp Nou to do so.

Tebas, an admitted Madrid supporter, was speaking after attending a breakfast with a group of European sports reporters, and surveyed the situation at the top of La Liga.

“Madrid have recovered seven or eight points’ difference,” he pointed out, according to Marca, following Madrid’s defeat at Villarreal.

“There’s still a lot of League to be played and if Madrid win at Camp Nou [the gap] would be only four points. It’s exciting and it’s even, as we all wanted.”

Tebas also commented on Madrid’s appeal against their Copa del Rey expulsion after fielding an ineligible player, Denis Cheryshev, against Cadiz.

“I think it’s always right to defend your rights. If Madrid believe this is what they have to do, then it’s what they should do,” Tebas suggested.

“In my opinion it’s a complicated legal issue. They have to respect the decision and there shouldn’t be any more bad blood at Madrid.

“Any club would have appealed and now they have to respect the decision.”
