Kempes calls for Neville faith

Valencia legend and club ambassador Mario Kempes has called for the fans to have faith in rookie coach Gary Neville.

The former Manchester United and England defender was appointed to replace Nuno Santo but has yet to win a game, losing to Lyon and drawing with Eibar.

“Gary brings a change of ideas, mentality and a new face in the dressing room,” former Argentina striker Kempes said, AS reports.

“The players will react. We have to have confidence in him. The owner and the President believe in him and it would be a mistake to be throwing darts now.”

Kempes also looked ahead to Valencia’s Europa League campaign after Los Che were draw with Rapid Vienna.

“Austrian football is competitive right now. Rapid beat Villarreal 2-1 and gave them a hard time [at El Madrigal] when they could only win 1-0,” he pointed out.

“They’re an opponent who can’t be belittled. Valencia have already suffered against a weaker opponent, Monaco. We shouldn’t underestimate the opposition.”
