Diego Godin didn’t act coy when asked how it feels to see Atletico Madrid joint-top of La Liga, with Barcelona. ‘It’s great, why deny it?’
Godin was speaking after he was honoured by AS at their yearly gala, and admitted he was relishing the situation in which Atleti currently find themselves.
“It’s true, life is smiling, not just for this award, which I greatly appreciate, but for how the team is, for the moment we’re living. We’re in great form,” he acknowledged.
“We’re having important results in all three competitions, so we have to enjoy everything that is happening.
“[Joint-top] is great, why deny it? We knew it’d be a tough year, perhaps the season didn’t start as we expected, but gradually, with work, which is what characterises us, we have been growing.
“Year after year we have to demand more, people also require more of us, we have to do better, break down barriers and always look ahead. Now we’re top of the table with Barca and we know there’s a long time to go, but it’s important because it reinforces everything we do.
“The feelings are very good. More than that we’re adding points to achieve and reach our goals, and I suppose we transmit positive feelings because we’re winning, because we’re not conceding goals, which is a fundamental part of success.”
