Del Bosque: Aduriz? Maybe in March

Spain Coach Vicente Del Bosque moved end to questions over Aritz Aduriz’s international future. ‘He might come in March…no one is called up in December.’

Athletic Bilbao striker Aduriz is the highest-scoring Spaniard in the season so far but has missed out on each one of Del Bosque’s squads, leading to repeated questions to the trainer as to why.

“Aduriz is doing well to get in the national team, but only when there’s a squad to call,” Marca quotes Del Bosque as saying at an event in Madrid.

“He may or may not come in March, but in the meantime speculating about everything is beside the point. We can’t call anyone in December or January.

“Aduriz is playing great, he’s the top scorer in the country. If when Euro 2016 approaches he’s still in good form, we’ll have to take him into account. We make a selection for France, nothing more.

“There are others, like Imanol Agirretxe or Lucas Perez who are doing well, fortunately.”

Del Bosque was also asked about Diego Costa, who was dropped from the Chelsea side over the weekend and appeared to throw his bib at Jose Mourinho, and Andres Iniesta, who didn’t make the top three for the Ballon d’Or.

“He didn’t? Well, bad luck,” Del Bosque replied when the Barcelona midfielder was raised.

“Costa threw his bib but it can’t be said he threw it at Mourinho. He took it off because he wasn’t going on, that’s all.”
