Neville takes Valencia training

Phil Neville will take Valencia training on Monday morning as Michael Laudrup and Frank Rijkaard are the early frontrunners to replace Nuno Santo.

Los Che face Barakaldo in their first Copa del Rey match of the season on Wednesday, and the former Manchester United defender – who had assisted the Portuguese since the summer – has been temporarily promoted to leading the first team, alongside fellow coach Voro.

However, it is not known whether the pair will be in charge for the cup match, with B Coach Curro Torres also in line.

Marca, meanwhile, reports Laudrup and Rijkaard are the early favourites to succeed Nuno following the latter’s resignation on Sunday.

Laudrup recently turned down the opportunity to manage his native Denmark, while Rijkaard – who won two La Liga titles and a Champions League with Barcelona between 2003 and 2008 – has been out of work since being sacked by Saudi Arabia in 2013.
