Villar threatens FIFA legal action

Angel Maria Villar says he may take legal action against FIFA after being fined €23,150, despite its Ethics Committee clearing his name.

The committee concluded its investigation into the RFEF President by declaring that he did cooperate with Michael Garcia regarding the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups but missed the official deadline to do so and used profanity in an hour-long meeting with the lawyer.

“On one hand, I am very happy with the part of the ruling because I can finally clean my name after so much speculation and so many continuous leaks about my lack of cooperation with the investigation,” he said in a statement on the RFEF’s website.

“However, at no time did I behave in an indecent manner or breach any provision of FIFA’s Code of Ethics during the process.

“I regret that an expression I used has been interpreted differently by some members of the Ethics Committee.

“For this reason, I will evaluate whether to take legal action against the penalty imposed.”
