Iniesta: England game special

Andres Iniesta believes the upcoming friendly between Spain and England is a special one, and spoke of his confidence in Coach Vicente Del Bosque.

La Roja host the Three Lions at Hercules’ Jose Rico Perez ground on Friday and the Barcelona midfielder explained to Onda Cero why he feels this game has greater meaning than most friendlies.

“Games against England are always special. Added to that is that many of my teammates have spent years playing there and are important for their clubs,” Iniesta pointed out, AS reports.

“The Premier League has given a lot of value to Spanish players. I think England have a great team that combines a lot and they’re one of the great national teams.”

Iniesta also discussed Spain’s standing and his role in the team, with Euro 2016 in France in mind.

“For many years, it’s very demanding always being there,” he said regarding his long service to La Roja.

“I’m confident in the Coach. We’ve lived unique moments with him and some of them to everyone’s disappointment.

“We have a European Championships that excites us, we’re the defending champions, and we have a great squad that can do important things.”

Iniesta discussed two of his Spain teammates in particular, current Real Madrid midfielder Isco, who has been forced out of the squad through injury, and former Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, now at Juventus.

“Isco will always have the best players by his side. A midfielder who is world class will always be called, always,” he predicted, speaking of the competition Isco faces at club level.

“Real Madrid and Barcelona always need to sign players. The important thing is he’s playing and doing well.

“I’ve always had great respect for him as a player. He’s an example for Spanish football and the national team.

“Morata? If a player is here, they have the capacity to play and perform. Another thing is the performance for their clubs, they can repeat here.

“I think the players behind him can benefit. He’s a very strong player with a great physical advantage. We’re delighted he’s with us.”
