Pique expecting Clasico boos

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique says he is unfazed by the prospect of being heavily booed by Real Madrid fans during the Clasico on November 21.

Pique has been subjected to jeers from a vocal minority of Spain supporters this season after making anti-Madrid comments at Barca’s treble celebrations in June, but he is more concerned about ensuring his side remain top of La Liga.

“Will I get booed? I suppose so, we’ve never been welcomed at the Bernabeu, but it’s normal. There’s a strong sporting rivalry,” he said upon being named the best Catalan footballer of the year on Monday.

“We’re in our best run of the season. We had our most complete game so far on Sunday, but this doesn’t mean anything because the Clasico is a different game entirely.

“The most important thing is that we’re leaders at the moment, and we expect to remain leaders after the game.”
