UEFA-Barca Estelada ‘truce’

UEFA and Barcelona have reportedly agreed a ‘truce’ over the issue of Estelada flags being displayed by fans in Camp Nou.

Mundo Deportivo reports UEFA’s Disciplinary Committee has decided to provisionally suspend further sanctions against La Blaugrana until the current case against the club over the breach of regulations is resolved.

Estelada flags have pro-Catalan independence connotations and UEFA judged their presence in the stands to be contrary to rules on political demonstrations.

The original case stems from the win over Bayer Leverkusen in late September and Barca are appealing their sanction to UEFA and, if that fails, will go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

If Barca are successful in their appeal then there could be no further punishment over the issue from UEFA, Mundo Deportivo add.

However, the UEFA delegate who will be present for Wednesday’s game against BATE Borisov has suggested further cases could be opened against Barca before the original case is settled, but no punishment could be taken until it is resolved.
