Enrique Cerezo has maintained his belief that Jackson Martinez “is the best No 9 in Europe”, despite the striker’s difficult start to life at Atletico Madrid.
The Colombian has scored just one competitive goal for Los Colchoneros since his €35m arrival from Porto this summer, but the President is in no doubt that his prized capture will quickly rediscover his prolific form at the Vicente Calderon.
“He’s a fantastic player and he’ll show it because he has a lot of class and wants to play and appease the fans,” he told AS.
“He’s the best No 9 in Europe and it wasn’t easy to bring him in, but he was interested [in joining us] from the beginning and I’m delighted to have him here.”
