Jemez: Sporting a tough opponent

Paco Jemez is ready for a hard night when his Rayo Vallecano side host Sporting Gijon, describing the Primera new boys as a ‘tough, tough opponent.’

Jemez was fulsome in his praise for opposite number Abelardo, commending the Coach for his work in taking Sporting to the top flight.

“Sporting are a tough, tough opponent. They’ve lost only one game and that was in the 90th minute,” Jemez warned, AS reports.

“Their start to the season is more outstanding for the difficulties they have encountered.

“Abelardo looks like a great Coach. I think he deserves praise for the difficulty he has faced. He’s been serious and constant with humble work to give a competitive edge.

“I think Sporting are a good team who put in a lot of effort. It’s a good test for us.

“We want to play well and the fans to enjoy it. We can open a window and get into a nice situation.

“The other day against Las Palmas we had a great game in all aspects. We should have been better last week, though.

“The team did outstanding defensive work against Las Palmas. We’re a team that gambles defensively, play high up and it’s normal we concede goals. If we keep clean sheets, we’ll get a lot of points.”
