Luis Enrique could offer no update on the status of Arda Turan after Barcelona asked that he be registered despite their transfer ban.
It was reported that Barca are of the opinion that they have served their transfer embargo with the close of the summer window, a stance FIFA have previously rejected.
But as such, Barca are understood to have asked the RFEF and FIFA for permission to play summer signing Arda Turan after Rafinha’s season-ending injury.
“The club is looking for the best option but in the end it depends on FIFA. We know the reality of our options and we’re waiting on the outcome,” Enrique said, AS reports.
“I talked about it with the management, sure, but until there’s different news I won’t say who we’ll register.
“If we could register [Turan or fellow arrival Aleix Vidal], they’re ready to play. Arda has played with his national team and both are training well in a strange situation.”
Barca will have Gerard Pique back for the trip to Celta Vigo and Enrique discussed the centre-back’s return, as well as other issues affecting his squad.
“He’s been missing because of a mistake and it’s hurt him and the team. It’s always good when players return,” the Coach said of Pique’s four-game ban for abusing an official.
“Players missing is a normal part of the season. Injuries such as Rafinha’s are harder to accept. We’ll add more players in January. We’re focused on doing well.
“The injuries aren’t because of the training. Sandro Ramirez’s injury is a blow but there is a game every three days. The players are strong but they’re not super men. We’re not having as much luck as last season, but nothing has changed.
“Penalties? It’s not a problem. Lionel Messi will take them and that’s that. He’s the best.”
Enrique was also asked about the prospect of La Liga without Barcelona as the debate over Catalan independence continues to creep into football.
“Can I imagine it? I can imagine anything, in all walks of life.”
