Koke doubtful for Madrid derby

Koke is a doubt for the Madrid derby between Real and Atletico on October 4 after picking up a thigh injury against Eibar on Saturday.

The midfielder only managed 61 minutes of Los Colchoneros’ 2-0 win at Ipurua in what was regarded as a quiet performance by his standards, with Angel Correa opening the scoring within a minute of replacing the 23-year-old.

A statement on Atleti’s official website read: “[Koke] underwent an MRI scan at FREMAP Majadahonda clinic on Sunday and showed to have suffered a grade I-II muscle injury to the proximal third of the biceps femoris in his right thigh, pending any further developments.”

Koke is now expected to miss Atleti’s upcoming matches against Getafe, Villarreal and Benfica, thereby raising question marks over his participation against Los Blancos.
