Barcelona vice-President Carles Vilarrubi has hailed Gerard Pique as “a role model for many sportspeople” in wake of boos being directed at him for Spain.
The defender showed no remorse for his anti-Real Madrid stance at a Press conference on Thursday, and the 61-year-old is adamant that the player had nothing to apologise about.
“[Pique's Press conference] gave me the feeling of listening to an honest and sincere lad, who is – above – very consistent with his ideas,” he told reporters at Barca's annual commemoration of Catalan patriot Rafael Casanova on Friday.
“He's a responsible sportsperson, who has proved to be a person of integrity and certainly should be a role model for many sportspeople.
“The situation which has occurred seems strange. I agree with Pique's words about Barcelona and his attitude to life and sport.”
