Del Bosque explains Aduriz omission

Vicente del Bosque has challenged Aritz Aduriz to sustain his goalscoring form for Athletic Bilbao if he wants to be considered by Spain.

The 34-year-old scored 26 goals for Los Leones last season and has started 2015-16 in similarly-prolific fashion but was overlooked in favour of Diego Costa and Paco Alcacer on Friday for La Roja's upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Macedonia.

“We have plenty of faith in Diego Costa, so we've brought him in,” the Coach said in defence of his selections at a Press conference.

“Thiago [Alcantara] excites us, and although we're still evaluating him, we still believe he's our future.

“[Cesar] Azpilicueta is a starter [for his team] and we can trust him at full-back or centre-back.

“[Juan] Mata has almost always been with us almost forever. If we haven't called him up then it's because of the competition which exists.

“Slovakia are the group leaders, organised and play on the counter. We must attack them.

“We'll consider [Aritz] Aduriz if he continues his form. The same applies for [Alvaro] Negredo.”
