Butragueno: Could have been worse…

Emilio Butragueno accepts Real Madrid could have had a more difficult draw in the Champions League group stage, but could have had an easier one too.

Los Blancos were pitted against Paris Saint-Germain, Shakhtar Donestk and Malmo in the draw in Monaco.

“You can say, after each draw, it could have been better or it could have been worse,” Madrid’s director of relations said, AS reports.

“PSG have grown considerably in recent years. They’ve signed good players and have strengthened well. They’ve got a good XI and a good squad. It will be difficult.

“Shakhtar are used to playing the Champions League and they’re very talented. We have to take that into account when we’re away from home.

“Malmo eliminated Celtic, who are very competitive. When we play there will be a great influence.

“We have to finish first in the group because we know the knockout rounds are very dangerous. We’ll see the calendar and prepare well.

“In the Champions League it’s not just a bad night you’re penalised for, but a bad 15 minutes.”

Butragueno touched on playing against PSG’s Angel Di Maria, but not on the draw that sees Iker Casillas’s Porto face Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.

“Di Maria helped us a lot and there’ll be a lot of affection,” he added.

“The other tie isn’t our business, but we want Iker to do well. He’s a legend for us and will always be in Madrid’s heart.

“Mourinho showed his talent here and so we also want him to do well.”
