Barcelona have confirmed they are appealing the four-game ban given to Gerard Pique after the defender was sent off in the Supercopa de Espana second leg.
Pique was shown a straight red card in the second half of the draw with Athletic Bilbao, Barca losing 5-1 on aggregate, after he allegedly insulted the assistant referee and his mother.
The RFEF rejected Pique’s claim that he didn’t direct his comments at the officials, but rather used a Catalan phrase to express his frustration.
Should Pique’s ban stand he will miss four League games, against Athletic this weekend, then Malaga, Atletico Madrid and Levante.
